i'm thankful
for many things in life - oh so many
but this is not about all that
just about a particular point
and a very important one at that

i'm thankful
for you
that you exist, first and foremost
that i got to know you and still do
yes you, my friend,
i thank the gods for you

coz my belief it is
that life is immense,
unmeasureable by human standards
but life here and in this life now
a most important thing is friendship
and this you've given me
continue so to do

real friendship's intangible
it's not about bingey saturday nights
neither trekking the countryside
nor any single activity or multitude of
real friendship transcends
everything material

i do not try, therefore,
to pinpoint this, or that
or count how many emails exchange
no, no, nay of this
it's simply that you
and i
have a space for each other
in our respective hearts

for that i bow my head
towards you
as well as "thanks"
i say "namaste" -
whose literal meaning is thus:
'i unite the male and female in me
and bow down to god
whom i see in you'
